May 11th, 2008 - Opening Day Rain
The Cubs had intended on giving the moms an opening day win, but Mother Nature had other plans.  Opening day has been rained out and will be rescheduled sometime in the next few weeks.  The new time and date will be posted in the schedule.  The Cubbies will play their first game against Aviators this Wednesday at 7 PM at Altgeld Park.
April 9th, 2008 - 2008 OPCubs
With the never-ending winter of 2007 behind us, the Cubs are looking forward to improving on last season's record.  Several new additions have been made with prospects still rolling in.  The leagues lineup of clubs remains unchanged for the 2008 season.  The Cubs will open the 2008 season on Sunday, May 11 against the Marlins at Southwest Park.  If you are interested in trying out for the Cubs, or have any questions, please contact John Francel.
May 27th, 2007 - Cubs Defeat Mets
Coming off their first win of the year, the Cubs improve their record to 2-3 after beating the Mets (formerly Braves) in their first showdown of the season.  The Cubs' offense dominated the Mets' pitching totalling 18 hits and 13 runs over 6 innings.  Ben Lickteig (4-4, 4 R, 3 RBIs, 3B, 2 2B), Kavit Breyersdorf (2-3, 2B, R, 2 RBIs), Jerry Frydman (2-4, R, 3 RBIs) and Merak Metz (2-2, 2B, 2 RBIs) led the offensive onslaught.  Derek Dzeb (0-1) started on the hill gaining his first win of the season.  He went 3 1/3 innings allowing only 2 hits, 3 runs and striking out 6.  Breyersdorf came into relief in the 5th with one out and bases loaded.  He was able to end the inning without any runs being scored.  A few untimely errors were the only thing that kept this game close as he finished up striking out 3 while allowing 4 earned runs.  The Cubs look to pick up their 3rd win in a row as they play the Vikings on Saturday.
May 13th, 2007 - Opening Day
While the The Cubs dropped their season opener  to the defending league champion Marlins, the club showed a lot of promise for the 2007 year.  The Cubs pitching staff looked much improved with Derek Zdeb on the bump in the opening day start.  Zdeb pitched well until he ran into some control issues leading to one big inning for the Marlins.  David Kirk and Kavit Beyersdorf pitched well in relief, but the slumbering Cubs bats could not get Zdeb off the hook as he took the opening day loss.  The Cubs defense was another bright spot in the loss as the club committed no errors and looked sharp with a few outstanding plays.  The Cubs will look to build on a solid pitching and defensive performance, as well as, get the bats going wednesday against the 1-0 Winnemac Electrons.
January 6th, 2007 - Cubs seek more talented players
As spring time looms around the corner (and as opening day draws near), the Oriole Park Cubs are about to start gearing up for another run at a CMBA title.  The 2006 season saw the Cubs return to the playoffs after a two-year hiatus; however, the Cubs were unable to reach the championship game as they were eliminated from the playoffs in the semi-finals.  This year, the Cubs look to improve upon last year's success, setting their sights on a league championship.  The Cubs are expecting the majority of the 2006 club to return; however, the team is also looking to add the final pieces to the championship puzzle.  We are looking to add at all positions, with major focus on pitchers and another catcher.  The Cubs will be starting practice / open tryouts near the beginning of spring; all those who are interested in trying out, or would like more information regarding the Oriole Park Cubs,  please contact John Francel.

July 18th, 2006 - Cubs Deal Some Payback
The Cubs extend their winning streak to four with a win over the Rangers, 7-5.  Curtis Leonard (3-1) pitched all seven giving up five runs (four earned) on eight hits, four walks, and five strikeouts to earn his third win of the season.  Ben Lickteig chipped in with four hits, and Dave Wernecke (3-4, 2B) and Mark Jeager (2-2, 3B, RBI) added solid performances propelling the Cubs to the win.
July 16th, 2006 - Cubs Barely Hang On
The Cubs survive a seven-run rally in the seventh inning and hang on to win 14-10 in a bean-ball fest.  Warnings to both benches occurred after three consecutive Cubs’ hitters were hit with pitches in the fifth inning.  The Cubs found themselves on the unfortunate end of the stick when two Cubs’ pitchers were ejected in the late innings after two errant pitches found Black Sox hitters.  After the ejections, the Cubs were forced to play with only eight men on the field, and on the brink of forfeit, in the seventh inning; the Cubs however, prevailed recording a fly-out with the bases loaded to end the game.  NOTABLES:        James Sharp (2-3 HR(1), 2 RBI, R), Eric Shaughnessy (1-3, 3B, 2 RBI, R, SB), Gustavo Glier (3-2) W, 5 2/3 inn., 5 H, 3 R (1 ER), 2 K.
July 15th, 2006 - Cubs Smash Aviators
Battling the heat, the Cubs’ bats were lifeless through four innings before putting up a huge crooked number in the fifth en route to a 17-4 blowout victory over the Aviators.  The Cubs sprang to life behind Jason Walejeski (3-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2 R, SB), “Jerry” Frydman (2-4, 4 RBI, 3 SB), and Mike Jimenez (2-2), who pitched four shut out innings of relief to earn the win.  Joe Cardenas (0-0) started the game and received the no-decision, going three innings and giving up all four runs.
July 9th, 2006 - Cubs defeat Red Sox
The short-handed Cubs rallied behind Mike Jimenez (2-2) with some timely hitting in a victory over the Red Sox, 12-6.   Dave Wernecke (1-4, GS (3) 4RBI, R) chipped in with the third grand slam home run of the season for the Cubs, a “no-doubter” over the sidewalk in deep left field.   Other notables: Jimenez (2-3, 3B, RBI / 7.0 inn CG-W), Jerry Frydman (3-3, HR (2), 3 RBI, SAC, 2 R)

July 8th, 2006 - Cubs vs Browns
The Cubs put up two quick runs in the first inning, but must have angered Jobu, because their bats fell asleep as the Cubs failed to score the rest of the way in a 9-2 loss at the hands of the Browns.  Gustavo Glier (2-2) went all seven innings giving up nine runs on 14 hits.
July 6th, 2006 - Cubs beat Yanks
Starting the top of the first inning with eight players, the under-manned Cubs allowed only two runs to start the game before adding the ninth player in the bottom half of the inning.  The Cubs went on to defeat the Yankees by a final score of 11-5 behind the solid plate performances of: Mark Jeager (3-4, 2 3B, R, 5 RBIs), Rob Draniczarek (3-4, 3 runs) and Joe Cardenas (2-2, RBI, BB).  Curtis Leonard went five innings while giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits, three walks,  one HBP, with six strikeouts.
June 20th, 2006 - Cubs streak ended
The Cubs win streak came to a halt with a 10-7 loss.  The Cubs were unable to piece the offense together until mounting a spirited comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning, scoring four runs on a grand slam home run by Rob Draniczarek.  The Cubs then loaded the bases again but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity, stranding the tying runs on the bases.  Mike Jimenez (1-2) started the game, going five innings and allowing nine runs (seven earned), on twelve hits and six walks, with three strikeouts.  Draniczarek pitched two innings in relief, giving up two runs on four hits, with two strikeouts.
June 18th, 2006 - Cubs barely hang on
Despite nearly blowing two huge leads, the Cubs hang on to win this slugfest 18-14.  Shaky starting pitching contributed to much of the run output, as several free passes were issued to both sides.  The Cubs put up eight runs in the top half of the first inning, taking advantage of several consecutive walks.  The Electrons then countered with three runs of their own in their half of the inning.  The Cubs tallied five more runs in the second, increasing the lead to ten.  The Electrons would steadily close the gap, coming within two runs of the Cubs in the sixth inning; however, the Cubs put up four runs in the top of the seventh inning, providing the final nails in the coffin of the Electrons, notwithstanding the two runs they scored in the bottom of the frame.
Ben Lickteig chipped in another 3 for 3 performance, including a massive homerun to deep center and James Sharp and Leonard knocked in four runs apiece in their multi-hit efforts.  Leonard (1-0) earned a no-decision, pitching four innings and giving up nine earned on five hits, six walks, two hit batsmen, with four strikeouts.  Dave Wernecke (0-1) pitched an inning and a third in relief, giving up three runs on three walks, with two strikeouts.  Dave Kirk (1-0) went the final two and two-thirds, allowing two runs on five hits, two walks, with two strikeouts.
June 17th, 2006 - Cubs vs Electrons
The Cubs narrowly defeated an improved Electrons team by the score of 11-8 to earn their third victory in a row.  Ben Lickteig (3-3, 3 doubles, 3 runs and 3 RBI) and Dave Wernecke (3-4, dbl, 2 runs and 2 RBI) both had huge days, kindling the offense with three hits apiece.  Greg Nolan (1-0) made his first start of the year going 3-2/3 innings, while giving up five runs (four earned) on five hits, three walks, with one strikeout.  Lickteig (1-1) came on in relief and pitched the final 3-1/3 to earn the save.  Lickteig gave up three runs (all earned) on five hits, four walks, with five strikeouts.
June 14th, 2006 - Cubs Rally Back! Again.
The Mustangs put up four quick runs in the first inning as Gustavo Glier struggled early behind a shaky defense, but the Cubs would recover and defeat the Mustangs 9-5.  The Cubs tallied five runs in the second inning, the first coming on a Greg Nolan single scoring Ben Lickteig and moving James Sharp into third.  Glier then drew a walk loading the bases for  John Francel, who promptly deposited the first pitch over the left field fence for a grand slam home run giving the Cubs a 5-4 lead.  The Cubs added one more in the third inning and three more runs in the fifth inning.  Giler (2-0, 7.44) went the distance giving up five runs (three earned) on four hits, 1 walk with nine strikeouts over seven innings.
June 7th, 2006 - Cubs Rally Back!
Shrugging off early inning sluggishness, the Cubs rally from two 3-run deficits to over take the Red Sox 14-7.  Curtis Leonard (1-0) found himself in trouble in the first two innings, twice walking the bases loaded, but was able to pitch his way out of the jams with only minimal damage.  Leonard finished the day giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits, seven walks, two HBP, and five strikeouts over the seven inning complete game victory.  Leonard, (3-4, RBI, SB) and John Francel (4-5, 2 RBI, 3 SB) provided much of the offense as the Cubs scored ten runs in the final two innings to cement the win
June 6th, 2006 - Cubs vs Browns
The Cubs drop their second game in a row, losing 12-7 to the Browns at Walther Lutheran. The Browns scored six runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth on four Cubs errors to take a 12-3 lead. The deficit proved to be too great to overcome, despite the Cubs igniting a rally after two outs in the sixth inning-scoring four runs on Jerry Frydman's two-run shot to left and David Kirk doubling in two more. Michael Jimenez (1-1) started the game and went three innings, giving up nine runs - 3 earned - on four hits, two walks and two hit batsmen, while striking out three. Kirk (0-0) entered in the fourth inning and gave up three runs - one earned - on two hits. Kirk also walked one, struck out one and hit a batter in his first outing of the year.
June 2nd, 2006 - Cubs lose to the Marlins
Mistakes, both mental and physical, allowed this game to slip away from the Cubs as they take one on the chin from the Marlins, 4-2.  The 2 runs by the Cubs came on a double with two on by Mike Mangiaracina.  The Cubs squandered a few other scoring opportunities with poor baserunning.  The 5 errors in the game didn't help either, but with all that said, the Cubs still had a chance to keep the game close.  Ben Lickteigh started the game , going 4 2/3 while giving up 4 hits, 2 walks, 3 runs, 1 earned and then gave way to Curtis Leonard, who went the final 1 1/3 giving up an unearned run on no hits, 1 walk, and an error.  It wasn't the best performance of the year, but with more timely hitting, and better base running, the Cubs should find themselves on the winning end of many a ballgame.
May 30th, 2006 - Cubs vs Black Sox
Picking up their third win in a row, the Cubs top the Black Sox 10-3, scoring all ten runs in the first inning on two hits, eight walks and three batters hit by pitches while batting sixteen men.  Those ten runs were all the Cubs would get and need as Gustavo Glier went the distance, pitching all seven innings and giving up three runs on six hits with a walk and HBP, while striking out seven in his complete game victory.
May 28th, 2006 - Cubs Stomp Aviators
The Cubs rallied behind the complete game no-hitter from pitcher Michael Jimenez to defeat the Aviators 15-0 in four innings.  The Cubs, as a team, hit the ball well, putting crooked numbers up on the board in all four innings.  The solid defense played by the Cubs aided in Jimenez's no-hit effort, as the Cubs came up with some tough plays to keep the Aviators off the base paths while committing no errors en route to the shutout win.

May 22nd, 2006 - Cubs vs Vikings
The Cubs overcome a three-run deficit in the top of the seventh inning as Dave "Dubs" Wernecke comes through with a clutch, RBI base hit to tie the game following the RBI double by John Francel and RBI triple from Ben Lickteig, to send the game into extra innings. The Cubs then scored four more in the top of the eighth, while allowing only two runs in the bottom half, to beat the defending league champion Vikings, 12-10. The Cubs got an RBI triple from Michael Mangiaracina, RBI singles from Curtis Leonard and Rob Draniczarek, with Draniczarek scoring the Cubs' final run on an error in the top half of the 8th inning. After giving up 2 runs in the bottom half Ben Lickteig worked out of a bases loaded jam, striking out the last hitter to earn the win. Mangiaracina started the game and went 4 1/3 innings, striking out 4 and walking only 2, and Lickteig threw 3 2/3 innings of solid relief, walking only 2 and striking out 5.
May 20th, 2006 - Cubs vs Yankees
After the opening weekend rainout, Cubs drop the first game of the year to the Yankees 23-2 in a mercy-rule shortened, 5 inning game. The Cubs, at times, seemed very tentative and rusty in the field, giving the Yankees extra outs in several innings; the Yankees then capitalized on those extra opportunities en route to the blow out win. On the other side of the ball, the Cubs scattered hits throughout 5 innings and couldn't string anything together until Dave "Dubs" Werneck's two-run home run down the left field line after Ben Lickteig walked in the 4th inning. John Francel and James Sharp added triples, and Jason Walejeski both went 2 for 2 on the day. The Cubs will attempt to get back on track in their next game Sunday versus the reigning leage champion Chicago Vikings.

January 30th, 2006 - Site Is Live!
Welcome to the CMBA Oriole Park Cubs website!

The Cubs thank you for navigating to our page and without further adieu, a little about us. The Cubs are a good-natured, fun-loving team, with a passion for baseball and competition. The bonds between the players and coaches are ever-present on the bench and field.

While it's true that we are teammates, we consider ourselves family and always welcome new additions to that family. That said, the 2006 CMBA season is right around the corner, and the Oriole Park Cubs look to improve on last year's 16-11 record. In order to do that, we need to make some key additions.

The 2005 Cubs missed the playoffs because they were on the short end of a three-way tie breaker. Their 16-11 record was a moral victory of sorts because much of the roster was made up of first and second year guys trying to find their place among the seasoned veterans. With a year of experience playing together, combined with the return of the nucleus of the team, the 2006 Cubs expect to make a run deep into the playoffs.

We will rely on solid pitching and defense, as well as, a potent, multi-faceted offense to help us improve on last year's win total. The 2006 season should prove to be an exciting one for the Cubs as they stride towards their playoff goals.

Anyone interested in playing with this fun, competitive team, please contact John at jfrancel@comcast.net.
